The band was also seen playing acoustic versions of "Speed of Sound", "Trouble" and the two UK number-one singles, "Yellow" and "Clocks".[9] On the band's second DVD, Coldplay performed an acoustic version of "Parachutes" along with other songs from their seventh album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Frontman Chris Martin, discussing the album on The Colbert Report, said that the band "wanted to do an acoustic pop record" and "a couple of the singles are rockier songs. Coldplay is an English alternative rock band formed in 1996 in London, England, by singer, songwriter, and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist and songwriter Guy Berryman, bassist Jonny Buckland, and drummer Will Champion. The band's debut album, Parachutes, was released on 21 November 1997. The album was a critical and commercial success,[2] selling five million copies worldwide, winning, in addition to its two Grammy Awards, the 'Best Album' and 'Best British Album' prizes at the 1998 BRIT Awards. The Friends debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart in the second week of its release. It climbed to the top of the chart in the third week, and has since been certified Diamond in the UK for shipments of over 10 million copies.[3] The album has been re-released several times. The first of these remakes was released on 30 November 2001. With one minor exception, each release was packaged with a bonus DVD containing a live performance video filmed either in Europe or the United States.
