Coldplay is an English alternative rock band formed in 1996 in London, England, by singer, songwriter, and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist and songwriter Guy Berryman, bassist Jonny Buckland, and drummer Will Champion. The band's debut album, Parachutes, was released on 21 November 1997. The Friends debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart in the second week of its release.
